The Complete UAE Used iPhone Inspection Checklist: IMEI, True Tone & Battery Health Guide

Why an Inspection Checklist is Mandatory in UAE

Buying a pre-owned iPhone in Dubai or Sharjah can save you anywhere from 30% to 50% compared to Apple Store retail prices. However, street shops in areas like Deira Naif or unverified classified ads carry risks: replaced aftermarket LCDs, boosted battery chips, and iCloud blacklist locks.

At Revanto, every pre-owned device passes our 40-point diagnostics before receiving our Grade A seal. If you are inspecting a phone yourself, follow this strict step-by-step technical checklist.

Step 1: Verify the Serial Number & Model Prefix

Navigate to Settings → General → About and look at the first letter of the Model Number:

  • M: Originally purchased brand new from Apple.
  • F: Officially refurbished by Apple.
  • N: Replacement unit issued by Apple Authorized Service Provider.
  • P: Personalized unit with custom laser engraving.

Step 2: Check for True Tone and Display Replacement

Swipe down into Control Center, press and hold the brightness slider. If the True Tone icon is missing, the screen has been replaced with a non-genuine panel without serial deserialization.

On iOS 15.2 and later, look for "Parts and Service History" in Settings → General → About. If you see an "Important Display Message: Unable to determine if your iPhone display is genuine", the screen has been swapped without Apple calibration.

Step 3: Test Face ID and Front Sensors

Go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode and initiate enrollment. Face ID uses a delicate TrueDepth infrared dot projector. Drops or water damage frequently disable this module. If the phone states "Face ID is not available", avoid purchasing—this repair is expensive and requires microsoldering.

Step 4: Check Genuine Battery Health (and Spot "Boosted" Batteries)

Check Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging. For iPhone 15 and 16 series, check the cycle count under About. Be cautious of 3-year-old models showing 100% maximum capacity: street sellers frequently install external tag-on flex cables that spoof the battery microcontroller.

At Revanto, we verify raw battery cycle counts via diagnostic software, guaranteeing true cell capacity of ≥95% for Grade A devices with zero warning popups.

Step 5: Verify TDRA & UAE Carrier Compatibility

Insert an active UAE SIM card from e& (Etisalat) or du. Make a test phone call and test 5G cellular data. Confirm in Settings that Carrier Lock states "No SIM restrictions".
